I asked for the congregation to pray for my prank caller. Is that an ok request?

Everyone at church was asking for prayer for all kinds of illnesses, so I figured this guy must be mentally ill, so I requested prayer for him. Now I feel like an idiot. Should I have done that? No one else helped me, so I figured God would.
