How do you handle a moody stepmom?

My stepmom is caring, loving and has great family values but she is extremely moody. It seems that when her life isn't going so well every one in her life has to pay for it. Take on her stresses. I feel sorry for all her kids, whom she has difficulty with. Now I understand why she doesn't get along with them.
